Kenya National Centre of Excellence
Building the future of workforce development
Seven years of groundwork turning into a national platform for hospitality, food production and workforce development, developed with public and private partners under a Memorandum of Understanding.

From testing ground to national platform
While Uganda and Somaliland represent the first implementation programmes, Kenya represents the long-term ambition. Over the past seven years Kenya has been the organisation's primary development and testing environment — where partnerships with educational institutions, government agencies and the private sector were established, digital learning validated and workforce development models refined.
Building on that, nOmy and its strategic partners are working towards a National Centre of Excellence for Hospitality, Food Production and Workforce Development, developed under a Memorandum of Understanding that frames long-term cooperation and implementation.
What the centre does
The Centre is designed as a national platform where vocational education, digital learning, certification and industry collaborate to strengthen workforce quality across Kenya's hospitality and food sectors.
Using modular, competency-based programmes developed with institutions and industry, it supports lifelong learning and continuous competency enhancement. Learners build recognised competencies that combine into individual learning pathways while responding to changing employer needs.
The Centre also functions as a national demonstration site for Training of Trainers, institutional capacity building and enterprise workforce development, supporting institutions, hospitality businesses and food producers through both physical and digital learning.
The nOmy Learning Management System serves as the digital backbone, giving every learner a Digital Skills Passport documenting competencies, certifications, workplace experience and continuous professional development. The first pilot implementation is expected between December 2026 and February 2027.

Long-term vision
The National Centre of Excellence represents the long-term evolution of the work initiated in 2019: vocational education, digital learning, competency-based certification, workforce documentation, food systems development and strong partnerships between education, industry and government.
Through the Digital Skills Passport every learner follows a documented pathway from Unskilled to Skilled to Certified to Employed, while employers gain access to a verified and continuously developing workforce.
Its long-term ambition is to serve as a regional platform for workforce development across East Africa, supporting institutions, businesses and governments with scalable training models, recognised certifications and measurable employment outcomes.
