Who we are

An organisation built around trainers, not software.

We move people from unskilled to skilled to certified to employed.

nOmy began as a chef-led response to a simple observation: businesses could not find skilled staff, and young people could not find work. Since 2019 we have trained more than a thousand people across five countries in hospitality, food service and food production, working with colleges, ministries, employers and community partners.

We deliver training at your facility and help design the SOPs and the structure around them, supported by specialised courses and compliance modules on the nOmy platform. Practical on site, documented and followed up online — and it always ends in something the learner owns: a verified credential.

Our trainers
Professional chefs, food production specialists, educators and assessors with operational experience across East Africa and Europe. People who have run the operation, not only taught it.
On your premises
We deliver training at your facility and help design the SOPs and the structure around them — the kitchen, the lodge, the production line — and assess practical competence in real conditions.
Built from real demand
Every module comes from documented labour market needs — food safety, handling, production, value addition, service and operations — not from a generic syllabus.

Our approach

Education, industry and public institutions, working together.

We believe sustainable workforce development is created when education, industry and public institutions work together.

Rather than delivering isolated projects, our programmes are designed to create long-term value by combining practical learning with digital tools, local partnerships and continuous follow-up.

The case

The workforce is there and willing. What is missing is access to structured training, recognised certification and documented career pathways.

12 million

young people enter the African job market every year

Africa

Most

food and hospitality workers in the region have never had access to formal vocational training

East Africa

One third

of food is lost or wasted through handling, storage and processing gaps

Global

Lower cost

structured workforce training measurably reduces operating cost and waste

Sector-wide

What we see

  • High youth unemployment and underemployment
  • Limited access to quality vocational education
  • Weak compliance and food safety standards
  • An informal workforce with no certification pathway
  • High staff turnover and low productivity

What changes when skills are addressed

  • Improved food safety and public health
  • Better quality in tourism and hospitality
  • Increased productivity for small businesses
  • Stronger export competitiveness
  • More and better jobs for young people

How we work

Blended: learned on the phone, proven on the floor.

No one leaves the workplace for weeks of classroom theory, and no business has to buy equipment. Training fits around operations instead of against them.

70%

On the phone

Specialised courses and compliance modules are completed on any smartphone, at the learner's own pace, with no time off the floor. Built for low-bandwidth conditions.

30%

On site

Our trainers and assessors work in your operation, help structure your SOPs and sign off practical competence against a standard.

100%

Documented

Progress, assessment and certification are recorded automatically and land in a Digital Skills Passport the worker keeps for life.

Practical handling & value addition

Waste falls and by-products become revenue instead of loss.

Hygiene & food safety competency

Full HACCP documentation, inspection-ready operations.

Structured onboarding

New hires arrive with a baseline; managers operate instead of retraining.

Verified credentials

Hiring stops being guesswork — competence is documented and checkable.

The digital infrastructure

The system that carries the training.

Our platform is how one trainer reaches a hundred kitchens — and how the result is documented well enough to be trusted by an employer, an inspector or a ministry.

The nOmy Skills Passport

A verified record of a working life.

Every completed course, approved task and issued certificate lands in a private passport the worker owns — not the employer.

  • Completed courses and assessment results
  • Certificates with the issuing entity named
  • Practical competencies proven at work
  • A unique QR code any third party can verify
  • Stays with the worker after a licence ends

Who we work with

Built for hospitality, food and service operations.

Where we are today

From results to scalable impact.

The journey so far reflects more than six years of practical implementation, partnership development and continuous learning across East Africa.

What began as small-scale hospitality training has gradually evolved into integrated programmes combining vocational education, digital certification, workforce documentation and local enterprise development.

Founder Jonas Karl Cronqvist demonstrating a technique to students in a teaching kitchen

From the founder

“I did not arrive in East Africa to build a technology company. I came as a chef. Businesses could not find skilled staff, and young people could not find work. The challenge was never education alone — it was connecting education, industry and opportunity.”

Jonas Karl Cronqvist · Founder, nOmy Group

“This culinary platform will create high-yield pathways to employment, equipping youth with market-driven, green hospitality skills that match global and local demand.”

Partner, World Food Programme

“Together, we are building stronger systems and brighter futures.”

Peter M. Muindi · Former Director of Academic Affairs, Kenya Utalii College
